Alicia Kozakiewicz was 13 years old when she slipped out of home to meet someone she had been chatting to online. What followed was a nightmare. But Alicia has made it her mission to protect other children from what she went through, and has had a law named after her. Alicia's Law has now been adopted by several states in the US, and is designed to promote funding for teams that go in search of children who have gone missing after being groomed on the internet. Alicia tells Jo Fidgen why she's now campaigning for the rest of the states to take it up.

Your interview on radio 4 en route home was a wake up call for me. My heart ached for you as I heard your story and what you endured as a child.I have a 13 yr old myself who is always on her smartphone. The plethora of apps they use is infinitely more now and it is hard for me to keep up with her online life. However, your experience made me realise that i need to take reponsibility as a parent and have atleast a monitoring app so at least i know what sites she is using. I would like to thank you for your courage and strength and for making this your calling. Please carry on reaching out to parents around the world with your story. There are lots of internet safety tips which i have glossed over . However, your story is evidence how this can happen to anyone and any advice coming from you is more compelling. I will follow your Internet tips as I can reference these to my daughter (who will no doubt complain when i install the software on her phone) ! I wish you all the best on your mission.
